Digitimes Predicts Windows Phone will be Fastest Growing Mobile Operating System of 2012
Oh yes, it’s that time of the year, when Digitimes releases its predictions for the mobile operating system market!
Digitimes’ August report envisions a 107.80% growth in Windows Phone for the rest of this year. In comparision, Android will grow 89.80% this year (down from 236.50% the same time last year), and iOS will grow 34.90% (down from 95.90% the same time last year). BlackBerry will fall 41.40% and Symbian willl fall 65.80% (due to Nokia relegating Symbian to its featurephone offerings).
Although Windows Phone will grow exponentially this year, Android will continue to dominate the mobile market, with an increase of 10% to a whopping 70% of the market.
Digitimes predicts that Windows Phone will ship around 21 million devices in 2012, painting a relatively rosy picture for the rest of the year. IDC estimated around 3.3 milion shipments of Windows Phones in Q1 2012 (including Windows Mobile), and Canalys estimated around 5.1 million shipments of Windows Phones in Q2 2012. If these estimates are to be believed, that leaves 12.6 million Windows Phones to be sold the rest of this year, more than double 1H 2012.
