Early adopters fear not – Microsoft will push updates to all WP7 devices

In an email exchange with ZDNet Tuesday morning, Microsoft stated yet again (and firmly) that all Windows Phone 7 devices will be eligible for Windows Phone OS updates going forward. It’s one of the biggest debates currently going on with Google and their Android consumers; as it stands, the carriers are the ones in control of whether or not Android devices get the latest download of the search giant’s newest operating system firmware. As opposed to Apple’s route, which controls without a doubt which devices get what upgrades. It is, of course, yet confirmed if Microsoft will allow all devices in the coming years to get the latest updates as it stands to reason that older hardware won’t be functional with newer features.

To ZDNet’s Ed Bott, Microsoft’s official pithy statement:

Microsoft will push Windows Phone 7 software updates to end users and all Windows Phone 7 devices will be eligible for updates.

Straight from the horse’s mouth.
