Xbox Music has arrived; Zune subscribers receive a gift

It seems that Microsoft hasn’t abandoned our loyalty to the Zune brand at all! Just today, as the launch of Xbox Music occurred, I received an email from Microsoft detailing the changes. Many of which are pretty fantastic.

One of the biggest improvements that the average consumer will see is that there is free streaming for all! Well, at least for those with Windows 8 devices. That feature paired with cloud storage of playlists, unannounced social features, multi-platform expansions, and the usual Zune pass components that cost $9.99/month or $99.90/year, Xbox music is shaping up to be a very strong competitor in the marketplace.

For those of us (like myself) who are Zune pass subscribers, you may want to double check that email you were sent today because Microsoft – out of the goodness of their hearts – has decided to gift us all a generous 1000 Microsoft points!

The news pertaining to the features that will be baked into Windows 8 come October 26th gives not only the operating system itself but the Microsoft Surface a big leg-up on Apple and Google. Not only are many of these features not supported (inherently in their previously existing services) but they are not nearly as organized or, let’s face it: as clean, pretty, easy, and streamlined as Microsoft’s services that are being offered.

Did you get the golden ticket email from Microsoft today? What do you think of the new Xbox music service? Sound off below!
